Why tax and bookkeeping firms use SignLucid

🧾

Form 8879 family

8879, 8879-S, -PE, -CORP, -F and more. Taxpayer and spouse fields go on the right lines, the ERO and preparer lines are skipped, and the tax year and names fill the title and signers.

🤝

2848 & 8821

Power of attorney and tax information authorisations, with signer fields placed for the taxpayer. Spouses each sign their own form.

✉️

Engagement letters

Your own letter, in your own format. Place the fields once and SignLucid places them the same way on the next one.

📦

The whole package in one envelope

Upload the full return with the 8879: fields go only on the authorisation pages. Add the state form and engagement letter, up to 12 PDFs.

🗂

Remembers your layouts

Move a field once and SignLucid remembers it for that form. It remembers printed text only, never a client’s name.

🧾

Form 8879 and state e-file authorisations

Taxpayer and spouse each sign their own line; the tax year and names come from the form.

Remote e-signatures on Form 8879 require identity verification under IRS Publication 1345; until built-in KBA launches, use SignLucid for in-office signing or for your other client documents.

Any letter-style PDF with a “Client signature” line gets its fields placed automatically.

Joint returns

Spouses sign their own spots, even on one phone

The most common e-signing mistake in a tax office is one spouse signing both lines. SignLucid makes that hard to do.

  • Each spouse gets a private link, and their fields have their own color.
  • Fields for other signers are greyed out and can’t be clicked.
  • If it still happens, send back only the spouse’s line with a note.
  • Optional access codes, such as the last four digits of each spouse’s phone, for an extra check before the document opens. (An access code is not the identity verification Publication 1345 requires.)
About identity verification for Form 8879. IRS Publication 1345 requires EROs to verify the identity of taxpayers who sign Form 8879 electronically in a remote transaction, for example through knowledge-based authentication (KBA), and to keep records of that verification. Built-in KBA is on the SignLucid roadmap. Until it ships, have clients sign Form 8879 in your office after you check their photo ID, or sign by hand and return the form, and follow the current Publication 1345. An access code is not identity verification.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can clients e-sign Form 8879 remotely?

Yes, but IRS Publication 1345 requires the ERO to verify the taxpayer’s identity for a remote electronic signature, for example with KBA, and keep a record of it. SignLucid’s built-in KBA is not available yet: until it is, have clients sign the 8879 in your office, or have them sign by hand and return the form. See Can clients e-sign Form 8879?

How do spouses each sign their own lines?

Add both spouses as signers. Each gets a private link and a color, and can only click their own fields. See the quick guide.

Which forms does SignLucid recognise?

The Form 8879 family (8879, 8879-S, -PE, -CORP, -F and others), 2848, 8821, 8878 and 8453, plus letter-style “Client signature” lines. For anything else, place fields once and SignLucid remembers them.

What if someone signs in the wrong place?

Open the envelope, tick only the fields that are wrong and add a note. The signer gets a new link and re-signs just those spots; everything already signed stays as it was, and the audit trail keeps every version.

Do my clients need an account or an app?

No. Each signer gets a private link and signs in any browser, on a phone or a computer. Signers never create an account and never pay. If someone has no e-mail, copy their link into a text or WeChat message.

How is SignLucid priced?

By firm, per month, from $0.99. Each plan includes a monthly envelope allowance: Basic 3, Starter 30, Pro 100, Firm 300. Pro is for teams of up to 3, Firm for up to 10 and puts your firm’s name and color on the signing page. Try every feature free for 7 days (10 envelopes), no credit card. See pricing.
